About Me
Micah Ruelle is an a nationally-recognized poet, educator, and community arts organizer whose work examines tenderness, kinship, and resilience through lyric precision and emotional honesty. Their chapbook, Failure to Merge, was published in 2019 (Finishing Line Press). Their poetry has also been featured in West Branch, Under Review, Plainsongs, Jet Fuel, and Cultural Daily, and their poem “The Last Birthday Gift” was selected by Kaveh Akbar for inclusion in Best New Poets 2021.
Micah holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State University, where they taught undergraduate courses in composition, and a Certificate in Theological & Pastoral Studies from Oxford University’s Wycliffe Hall. Their multidisciplinary background shapes a writing practice grounded in craft, spirituality, and social consciousness. They recently continued their education this past summer by joining the Iowa Writer’s Workshop (summer program) and studied with the award winning poet, Margret Ross.
As an educator, Micah has taught and mentored writers of all ages, helping them discover their voices through both academic and community-based programs. They are the creator of The Draft Season: 12 Months, 1 Poetry Collection, a free year-long virtual workshop guiding adult poets through the completion of a first manuscript.
Micah’s ongoing work in the arts and education reflects a belief that language can be both mirror and bridge—an instrument of care, connection, and transformation.
At the heart of it, Micah is drawn to curiosity, listening, and the quiet work of noticing. Whether it’s exploring a new poetic form, mentoring a young writer, or walking through the shifting seasons of a familiar place, they approach each moment with attentiveness, play, and a devotion to the small yet profound textures of life.
