The Draft Season

Write Your Book of Poems in 2026: A Free Year-Long Mentored Course

Do you carry inside you a full-length poetry manuscript, waiting to be born?
What if 12 months from today, you held a completed first draft in your hands — refined, shaped, ready for revision?

Why this course—and why me as your guide

Over the past decade, I have grown as a poet, editor, and teacher:

  • My poems have appeared in Cultural Daily, Under Review, Jet Fuel Review, and more, with a nomination for a Pushcart Prize.

  • I have a published chapbook, Failure to Merge, and my second chapbook has been a finalist in 5 chapbook competitions.

  • I earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State and have taught Composition and writing seminars at the college level.

  • I mentor younger poets, curate literary events, and regularly engage with the craft—so I understand both the creative and the practical sides of building a book.

This course arises from that experience: I believe (and have seen) that adult poets—those with demanding lives, work, families—can move steadily toward a working manuscript if they have structure, community, feedback, and accountability. Here’s the course guidelines.
